Most numerology forecasting works from your birth date. Essence and Transits do something rarer and more intimate — they forecast from your name. The idea is quietly beautiful: each letter of your name is alive for a span of years equal to its value, and as you age you move through them one by one, so that the particular letters lit up at any moment colour the season you're in.
Transits — the letters that light up
Every letter carries a number, and in this system it also carries a duration: it stays "active" for that many years before the next letter takes over. A letter worth 1 is active for a single year; a letter worth 8 holds for eight. You run through the letters of your first name (the physical Transit), your middle name (the mental), and your last name (the spiritual) in parallel — and when a name is used up, you simply loop back to its beginning. At any age, the three currently-active letters are your Transits.
Essence — the theme of the year
Add your three active Transit letters together, reduce, and you have your Essence for that year — the inner theme colouring it. Because letters change at different rates, an Essence can hold steady for several years running or shift suddenly; either tells you something about the rhythm of your life.
Essence vs Personal Year
This is the crucial distinction. Your Personal Year works outside-in — the events and circumstances arriving at your door — and lasts exactly twelve months. Your Essence works inside-out — your state of mind, your focus, what you're being asked to grow internally — and can stretch across several years. When the two numbers happen to match, the year is read as especially intense: inner and outer pulling the same way, for better or harder.
